After Shivaji’s death, the news reached the court of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. His ministers thought that the Maratha war would soon end, and Aurangzeb celebrated, believing that he had lost a strong rival. But Shivaji’s son Sambhaji had already taken power. Soon, the Marathas attacked Burhanpur, a major Mughal trading and office city. The Mughal soldiers were unprepared and lost the battle. During the battle, Sambhaji fell into a pit and saw a lion. He fought and killed it with his bare hands. The Marathas took the Mughal money chest, boldly challenging the emperor.
From Delhi, Aurangzeb heard that the Marathas were still strong. He sent a large army to crush them. At the same time, Sambhaji reached home and was warmly welcomed by his wife, Yesubai. In the court, some people tried to make Sambhaji’s brother Rajaram the king. The Mughal army continued to advance, and the story briefly mentions his cruel deeds. The Mughal prince Mirza Akbar asked Sambhaji to help fight Aurangzeb. The two sides began negotiations. Sambhaji was frightened and found secret letters between his stepmother Soyarabai and the prince. The plan to remove him was exposed, and the traitors were killed under an elephant. Knowing that the Mughal army was too large, Sambhaji used hit-and-run attacks. The harsh terrain of the Deccan exhausted the Mughals and caused heavy losses.

Netflix has confirmed that “Chhawa” will be streaming from April 11. The film had been running well for seven weeks, but this week saw a major drop in its earnings. For the first time, it earned less than ₹1 crore in a single day. By the end of its seventh weekend, it had earned ₹590 crore. According to sacnilk.com, on its 48th day in theatres, the film earned around ₹52 lakh, taking its total earnings in India to around ₹594.88 crore.
At the same time, Box Office India said that the film’s total earnings have crossed ₹700 crore, and its worldwide total is close to ₹800 crore. Despite the drop in daily earnings, Chhawa has become one of the highest-grossing Indian films of 2025. It is now Vicky Kaushal’s highest-grossing film, based on the life of Sambhaji Maharaj, the second ruler of the Maratha Empire, played by Kaushal.
Chhawa is a historical action film starring Kaushal. The film is based on the Marathi book ‘Chhawa’ by Shivaji Sawant. Laxman Utekar directed the film and Dinesh Vijn produced it under Medoc Films. Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna also star in the film. A. R. Rahman has composed the music, with lyrics by Irshad Kamil and Kshitij Patwardhan.

Review
Vicky Kaushal’s film ‘Chhawa’ is becoming the first big box office hit of 2025 in Bollywood. It is breaking records and has been going strong in its first weekend as well. According to box office site Secnilk, the period drama ‘Chhawa’ earned ₹24 crore on Monday, taking its total collection in India to ₹140.5 crore. Its worldwide collection on Monday touched ₹195.60 crore.
‘Chhawa’ saw a modest decline after Sunday, but is still seeing good crowds in theatres. This is especially true in big cities like Mumbai and Pune, where people are showing a lot of interest. The film is now likely to become the first film of 2025 to cross the ₹200 crore mark, having already earned ₹168.60 crore in India.
Despite mixed reviews, the film is doing much better than recent Bollywood films. On its first Monday, ‘Chhawa’ earned more than the combined Monday collections of Sky Force (₹7 crore), Deva (₹2.75 crore), Emergency (₹1.05 crore), Fateh (₹0.95 crore), Azad (₹0.65 crore), Badass Ravikumar (₹0.6 crore) and Loveyapa (₹0.55 crore). Its Monday collection of ₹24 crore is 50.52% lower than Sunday’s ₹48.5 crore, which is still a good weekend for the film.
