Ranjan, a sweet and simple boy from Banaras, loves Titli very much. But his father won’t let him get married until he gets a government job. With only two months left to prove himself, Ranjan tries his best to get a job. He meets Bhagwandas, who promises to help but demands a large sum of money. Titli somehow arranges the money by pawning her mother’s jewelry. But everything falls apart when Bhagwandas suddenly disappears with the money.

Feeling helpless, Ranjan goes to a temple and promises to seek Lord Shiva’s help to get a job. Surprisingly, Bhagwandas returns – he had gone to arrange Ranjan’s work in another city. Everything falls into place, and Ranjan and Titli’s wedding is fixed for May 30.

But something strange happens. After May 29, Ranjan keeps waking up repeatedly on the same day. At first, he is confused, but soon he remembers the promise he made in the temple. It haunts him – he is trapped in a time loop because he did not fulfill his promise.

This begins a funny and emotional journey full of love, trust and second chances.

Bhool Chuk Maaf Movie Review and Story

Plot

Ranjan, a small-town boy from Banaras, falls in love with Titli and dreams of getting married. For that, he needs a government job. He makes a promise to Lord Shiva but then forgets. What happens next is a funny and crazy ride of love, luck and wrongdoing.

Titli and Ranjan want to get married, but her father Brijmohan Mishra refuses because Ranjan doesn’t have a government job. Mishra gives her two months to get one, and if she does, he will let them get married. Ranjan meets Bhagwandas, a man who helps people get government jobs, but he demands a large sum of money. Titli somehow manages to keep her mother’s jewelry as a loan and runs away with it.

But then, Bhagwandas runs away with the money. Everything falls apart. Ranjan goes to a temple and tells Lord Shiva that if he gets a job, he will do well. After that, Bhagwandas returns. He had gone to another city to arrange Ranjan’s work. Now everything is fine, and Ranjan and Titli’s wedding is fixed for May 30.

But something strange happens. After May 29, Ranjan wakes up and sees that it is the same day again. Every morning, May 29 returns with the same things. Ranjan starts thinking and sees that all this is happening because he has not fulfilled the promise he made in the temple. Unless he keeps his word, his life will not move forward.

Do Ranjan And Titli Get Married?

The next day, Ranjan wakes up on the 30th, which is his wedding day, and tells Titli and her family that he wants to quit his job. Bhagwan Das comes and says that Ranjan’s decision is right and wise. After much discussion, the family agrees, and finally, Ranjan and Titli get married.

A Recurring Day Is Like Your SIP And RD Day

Rajkummar Rao has to learn why a ‘mannat’ – a promise to Mahadev – is important. He reminisces about the day before his wedding until he does a good deed to God that he would do if he got a job. He gives money to the poor, feeds the hungry, even feeds cows. Yet, the day returns again. He wears the big sherwani again, steps in cow dung again, hears shopkeepers teasing him again, ‘Kyon dulhe raja, kaisa chal raha hai?’ His friends tell him to try this and that. But he feels this is the only good thing he is doing.

Doesn’t this sound like a small habit that your dad or mom taught you long ago? Like when they gave you a small piggy bank or ‘gulak’ and told you to put coins in it every day? They showed how a little saving can make a big difference. This is like when your bank gives you a passbook and updates it when you put money into a recurring deposit. Or when you get a message on your phone once a month that your SIP has been automatically deducted from your bank – which gradually builds up your savings for future needs.

Recurring deposits help you grow your savings better than using a regular savings account. You put in a fixed amount every month for a fixed period. People who want security for their hard-earned money prefer this. The interest you get on an RD is often similar to the interest that banks offer on FDs or fixed deposits.

Review

The release story of Bhool Chook Maaf was strangely consistent with its plot. It was first planned for theatres, then moved to OTT, and then returned to cinemas – going in circles like the film’s own theme. The story too takes its time and moves slowly, but the ending completes the long and messy setup.

In Banaras, young lovers Ranjan (Rajkummar Rao) and Titli (Vamika Gabbi) live in their own little world. She doesn’t have a job, and she doesn’t think twice before acting. They try to elope and get married, but Titli changes her mind halfway through. She feels it’s not right to hurt their parents. They still want to be together but not by hurting their families.

Ranjan, who usually doesn’t care much, promises his father that he will get a government job in two months. That’s all his father wants. With no concrete plan, the two resort to tricks and quick fixes to make things work. At first, everything goes well, but then Ranjan gets caught in a time loop – which prevents him from reaching his wedding day.
